“Sheltered in the shadow of earth, forged in fire and capturing the spark of raw energy, let the crystals be lifted to the air, to glimmer as ice and water, and catch the light of the world.” One of the reasons Haven is so vital and spared against the Rift and cataclysm is thanks to the great crystal. The crystal sits at the highest point of Haven, and keeps the magic flowing through the city. It encompasses all of the elements. In addition, the Crystal has one other unique attribute; since its energy is constant, it grows at a constant rate. But rather than getting bigger, it sheds parts of itself, constantly renewing itself. These shards are then formed into eggs, which the PCs bond creatures hatch from. (NOTE: this does not necessarily mean the eggs are made of crystal, if the PCs want their eggs to be formed from a different material. They’re created from a strange magic, after all; the one constant is that they carry a spark and connection to the thing that created them.) The creatures and PCs they are bonded with now have a connection to the magic and forces of the world, thanks to their link with the Crystal. Magic in Avalice is broken into 8 elements, and a 9th, spirit, that governs all others. Through the bond with their Anima companion, Scions may learn magic in the form of spells and abilities, listed below. Scions also begin with one primary element, selected during the app process, and branch out from there via RP. |

Spell Keywords:
A quick guide of the words that pop up in spell lists, for reference.
Weapon: Creates a weapon of any type, formed from the element and leaves a different effect on the wounds. (Freezing, burning, stiff, corrupted, etc) The weapon may change forms when summoned at different times.
Line: Shoots or opens a line directed by the caster, and can be through the air or ground. It must be straight, but can be turned into an arc or different shapes, with practice.
Bolt: Fires a single shot of concentrated element energy and can be curved, arced, etc. The shot can trail a limited amount of energy as well.
Burst: A blasting attack that fires smaller shots in a radial pattern, or in one big blast.
Wall: Raises thick walls of an element, with a depth of about 3 feet.
Wave: Moves a mass of element, and can be grown or diminished as it travels. With practice, one can send out multiple waves.
Animate: Forms a construct of varying shape (humanoids, animals, etc) that follows simple commands.
Transform: Changes the caster into a bestial or humanoid shape, the details of which can swap around on each casting. A partial change can also be cast, with control improving with practice.
Transmute: Shifts one element into another, and vice versa. Amounts changed start small (about a basket worth) but grow with practice.
Bleed: Either bleeds an element from wounds, or emits it in weak pulses once hit.
Heal: Uses element to mend or expel damage, a degree of healing increases with practice, ranging from small cuts to gaping wounds and mending bones.
Siphon: Allows caster to gain energy from their element, if in contact with it. The caster can siphon a limited amount before exhausting the element, or rising overloading their own body with it. Control of the drain and capacity to store energy increases with experience.
Speech: Enables caster to speak an ancient elemental tongue used in lost languages.
Elemental: Calls a semi-intelligent elemental to perform one simple task. One can convince the element to do more with charisma or practice.
Shaping: Manipulates an element into different shapes, and can be held as long as the caster concentrates.
Teleport: Travels from one element source to another (such as between fires, puddles, etc) with distance and the size needed for a travel increasing with practice.
Scions can also discover new ways to combine magic from different elements and individual spells, with the above list being suggestions and ideas.
