FAQ
A quick overview of questions you might have regarding the game. If you have more questions, don’t hesitate to comment below!
Q: What is this game? A: A fantasy adventure game, with an emphasis on characters and the creatures they find themselves bonded with. Think Dungeons and Dragons plus classic 90s-2000s RPGs (Legend of Mana, Final Fantasy IX, etc) in terms of mood and setting feel. While there is a background plot, characters are encouraged to go out and explore on their own and get into trouble along the way, or delve into personal character arcs and stories. We aim to bring an even mix of adventure and SoL, with a VERY small touch of suspense, mystery and horror in exploring the past. Q: Is this a successor to Dragon Called? What can I bring over? A: This is indeed a successor of sorts, though we’re just casual fans who love the concept vs former game mods. Nearly all apps to DC can be accepted here, with dragons, elemental affinities, magic, AND CR ported over. Q: CR? How’s that work? A: Characters can experience lucid dreams and visions when pulled between worlds, with varying degrees of clarity. This said, we encourage players to talk between themselves before porting over everything. Q: Does this mean my character still has visions of their world being destroyed? A: If you want to! But it isn’t mandatory; just encouraged for drama. Q: Ok, so how is this different from Dragon Called? A: There are several changes, summed up here: +We run with a different lore and setting, although it is heavily inspired by what was present in Dragon Called. We try to do homages where we can, but also keep the lore original and not worry about too many contradictions in the plot and setting. +We also have tried to expand the options for your character’s companion. If you want to create something similar to a chocobo, moogle, pokémon, etc, then you can. +Characters do not die when dropped, though the option is still there if you want them to go out in a dramatic last stand. But the default is that they simply fade away as the magic calling them here weakens. +Visions of a character’s world ending in an apocalypse are optional. +The spells have been altered and for a broader reach and flexibility with each spell. +The SP economy/rewards system is tweaked due to the lack of an Activity Check. Q: And how about the FAQ stuff from DC? Does that apply too? A: Generally yes! The exceptions are the false visions mentioned above, and changes to setting details. But if in doubt, post questions in the comments. Q: How about power loss? Is that a thing? Not at all... generally speaking. If a character has inherent powers, such as element bending from Avatar: The Last Air Bender, or limit breaks from Final Fantasy, they'd get to carry those over. The one exception is if the powers are dependent on an item that isn't directly bonded to the character; since the item doesn't arrive with the character, they'd lose those abilities. (Though they may have the opportunity to regain or replicate the item or their lost abilities, via the rewards system. Q: What sort of characters can I play here? A: Canon characters from books, movies, comics, video games, cartoons, etc are allowed. We also accept OCs, and tabletop characters. Player created characters from MMOs are also allowed in...and some fandom OCs on a case-by-case basis. (Apping one DOES require some discussion before submitting an app, and figuring out what sort of role they play in the canon.) Q: What’s your policy on non-human characters? A: Non-humans stay non-human; there is a large population of varied races in Haven as is, ranging from slightly funny looking humanoids to talking animals. We will need giant robots such as Transformers scaled down so they don't step on everyone and all the buildings (to about 10-12 feet high) and some of their tech might get swapped out to more of a magitech equivalent, but the general rule is non-humans stay as they are. Q: What’s the max number of characters I can have? A: Three! We require that you only app and/or reserve only one character on each application cycle. Q: Can more than one version of a character be in play? A: Right now up to two versions of a character can be played! This means you could have say, Marvel Comics Steve Rogers and Marvel Movie Steve Rogers both running around, or two versions of Commander Shepard, etc. Q: What’s the rule for minor/side characters from a canon? A: We go by "The Nintendo Rule" of character representation. If there's enough there to give a good clear idea of who your character is and what they do via actions, choices, etc, then you can app them. You could be a silent Nintendo protagonist, but as long as your character interacts with their canon in a meaningful, impacting way, (they change the world and/or are changed by it) they can be applied for. Q: Do the anima creatures eat? A: The creatures do indeed eat, and you can get creative with their diet; they might eat gemstones, specific types of plants or fish, can subsist part (but not all) of their diet on sunlight, etc. The general rule is that the food must be solid in some form or another and not a pure element. Q: How intelligent are anima creatures? A: Almost but not QUITE as smart as an average human. Toothless from HTTYD would be a good benchmark on how smart the critters are. Capable of understanding someone’s speech, highly empathetic and capable of their own personality quirks, but not capable of talking… unless you want to save up your SP and unlock a spell which allows for that. Q: The premise says that natives are too tired and haggard to share their souls. What would that mean if someone wanted to app a character whose canon has worn them down and/or broken them? A: Your character may be broken, but they haven't been subjected to the same EXACT magic apocalypse that has happened in Avalice. Also the Rift is not particularly picky about who it pulls from other worlds, so long as they are at least FROM another world and have a slightly different soul from the locals. Q: What’s the rule on powers that come from tech that’s fused with the character such as nano machines? A: The basic letter of said powers still works. Though the tech itself may be altered to be more of a magitech equivalent; like say, tiny runes engraved on chips of similar tiny metals in a character’s bloodstream taking over the role of nano machines. Q: Where’s the art from? A: Magic the Gathering! This said there isn’t much in the way of lore from the game; we just really love the art. |
